![]() And the winner of the 2022 City of Calgary Environmental Achievement Award goes to... Miistakis Institute! We are very honoured to have been recognized for this award, an award that recognizes leadership, innovation, and action in environmental stewardship that reduces the impact on Calgary's natural environment. Miistakis is very proud of the work that we do to support Calgary's urban ecosystems through mapping and understanding wildlife movement, enhancing environmental policy, promoting ecological infrastructure, advancing biodiversity research and educating citizens through participation in conservation stewardship work (some of our most recent work includes Calgary Captured and Call of the Wetland). We are also proud to be included with all of the 2022 nominees, who are all doing really important environmental work - we need this work, and we need this diversity, in groups and approaches, to address our environmental challenges. Please check out our award video vignette. We have some additional exciting news to share - we have moved! We are now a collaborator in MRU's Trico Changemakers Studio, a learning space dedicated to social innovation and collaboration at the intersection of campus and community. The studio brings together community stakeholders, students and faculty from across disciplines, sectors and backgrounds to tackle the complex social and environmental challenges of our time. Sound familiar? We thought so too! The Studio, with its systems approach to complex problems is a perfect match for Miistakis, and we look forward to being part of this community hub of changemaking. Come check us out in our new beautiful space! Happy days of summer, ![]() Danah Duke, Executive Director | |
